Broken Hearted Page 5

He laughed as he chose a shirt, faded jeans and his boots to wear for the evening. He’s still amazed she called him a “Whore Bag”. If he’s going to get through the night with Faith being the come on queen, he’d better take a long relaxing shower instead of a quick one.

Amazing what a nice cold shower could do. Trey needed Faith with every fiber of his being. Everyone in the bar needed to see the desire in his eyes. He put his clothes on, glancing in the mirror at his light brown hair that barely touched his collar. Faith called his hair blond. He called it light brown. He guessed it depended on the way the sun shined. He put a small amount of gel in the palm of his hand and dabbed his fingers in it, rubbing it through his hair. Trey loved the way Faith styled his hair and frowned. Thinking to himself, this would have to do.

He needed to plan every detail out for tonight. Faith didn’t realize the band members were from her past. She lived with them after her parents died. Well, she lived with Roni's family. Roni’s one of the singers in the band. She’s a cute, young girl with blonde spiked hair and blue eyes. She might scratch five feet tall. She stayed high on something all the time. The guitar player was from Faith’s past too. Trey thought he was her first love from all the information he could find out about him. His name was Cash O’Connor, a real bad boy type. Trey was sure he’d kick Cash’s ass if he tried to hurt Faith again. She’d never mentioned him, but Trey knew Cash broke her heart years ago. She’d been hurt enough and he wanted to protect her.

He didn’t want Faith knowing the people from her past were even in town until she was comfortable in Dakota’s and playing her role in this operation. Trey reminisced. We both loved to play games, anywhere and anytime. We always got the job done, though our games never interfered with our detective work.

Trey’s boss-partner Eli Bentley was going to be there to make sure everything ran smoothly tonight. He’d been playing in the band for three months now. He played the drum and had a decent back up voice. Therefore, they trusted him, and Trey realized he does too. He wondered what Faith would think about Eli. He didn’t appear the FBI type. He guessed that’s why he fit in so well.

He shaved his head and wore a beard, and he worked out all the time. His arm muscles bulged in his shirts. He’s the quiet type, but they worked well together. Trey didn’t think he and Faith would hit it off. She’s wild, crazy, and fun to be with and he’s so quiet but does crack jokes on occasion. You, under no circumstances, knew what he’s thinking. All the girls hung around him after the sets. Trey guessed they love the quiet, shy type.

Trey decided to go to the bar early so he could observe and talk to everyone before Faith and Eve arrived. Cody’s dropping the women off and parking around the corner in case they needed him. His brother was so much like Trey. Except he worked out more and had a lot more tattoos than Trey. He was the one you wanted on your side in a bar fight. Let’s hope that didn’t happen tonight, Trey thought, but if it does, he could bet it would be Faith or Eve that start one.

Tonight, they had a great team working, Eli would be watching from the stage, and Faith would be watching the whole room. She was a people person anyway, so watching everyone in the room would be easy for her. All Trey had to do was look at Eve and she knew what he’s thinking. She could create great diversions when he needed her.

Eve was here to observe and entertain the table. There was never a dull moment when she is around. Eve’s fun without even trying—once she jumped on a table and started to dance. That was something she hated. However, she knew Trey was going to be shot so she jumped on that table and started dancing away. We all had to laugh even in a bad situation Eve could be crazy.

  CHAPTER TEN

Cody picked up the girls outfits from Trey today. He’s hoped something broke in this case soon.

Cody told Faith, “Trey can’t stay away from you much longer. He wants to work things out with you as soon as he gets this job finished.”

“Really, Cody? Not by the way he has been acting for the last three weeks.”

Cody loved his brother, but thought he should think about himself sometime and not just his job. The job would always be here, but Faith might not wait for him. Cody told him today that if she were free he’d go after her in a heartbeat. Cody explained to Faith that Trey grabbed his shirt and pulled him to him.

Trey said, “She’s not free, she’s mine.”

Cody laughed. “Hey, I love her like a big sister, but at least you finally admit Faith is yours.”

Faith wondered why Trey wouldn’t tell her that he wanted her and how much he needed her.

Cody said, “All Trey could do was shake his head. And say, ‘I will tell her I love her soon. I’ll explain everything to her when this case is over…’”

Cody promised Trey he’d be outside Dakota bar tonight, waiting for him to call for help if he needed to. They had to get there at eight o’clock sharp. Then Cody’s job was to wait outside and watch for anything unusual that might happen. Sounded easy enough, but that’s the problem, it sounded too easy. Cody found the girls painting their toenails in the bedroom. He handed each of the girls a box.

  Eve said, “Christmas already.”

Cody told her, “No, outfits from Trey. He says to tell you women to wear these tonight and stay safe.”

Then Cody went into another bedroom to shower and change, shouting from the bathroom, “Hurry and get ready girls, we have to get a move on it tonight.”

Faith turned to Eve. “No way in hell I’ll ever wear this outfit the way Trey picked it out. I always dress myself. He’s always loved the way I looked before, so tonight won’t be any different.”

An hour and a half went by. Faith and Eve walked down the stairs looking attractive. Maybe a little slutty but somehow it worked for them. Faith’s sure Trey knew it would. She hoped all eyes would be on her and Eve.

Cody hugged them both. “Let’s go have fun, ladies, and be careful tonight.”

He handed them their earpiece and both of them say, “No!” at the same time.

Cody laughed, saying, “Rules are rules and Trey makes them tonight.” We all would do as he says and everything would fall into place.

Faith put the final touches on her bright red lipstick. As she looked into the hall mirror saying, “Come on, Eve, it’s time we go have some fun. You will do great tonight!”

Faith took in a long breath and hoped she’d be the one who would be alright tonight. Half smiling, she said, “Let’s go, Cody, time to rock Trey’s world a little.”

Cody glanced at Faith and realizes she could rock any man’s world. Faith regretted Cody wouldn’t be inside to give her the confidence she’s going to need to walk through those bar doors tonight. Cody opened the car door for the girls.

“So I get to chauffeur you beauties around tonight. Let’s get the party started! I’ll turn the music on and we’ll be at the bar before you women can check your makeup again.”

They circle around the bar twice. It’s a small out of the way place. Cody saw parking spots the first time around, but wanted to check out the entrance and all the exits. He checked the bar doors and windows, making sure not to miss anything.

Tonight, they all would be in danger. Trey knew what he was doing and so did Cody. If this operation was finished tonight, maybe, everyone could go on with their lives. Faith knew Cody wished the best for her and Trey, but he had someone he wanted to be with too. Her name was Angela North.

She’s such an amazing woman and so beautiful. She had long blonde hair and beautiful big brown eyes. She’s a widow now. Her husband Shane North was Cody’s best friend. He’s developed feelings for her over the past few months. When Shane was killed in the service, they both were devastated. She was three months pregnant when we received the news about Shane. The funeral was hard on us all. She doesn’t seem to be letting go and learning how to grieve. Cody still worried she would lose the baby.

She asked Cody to go to the doctor with her about a month ago so she could find out the sex of
the baby. Cody was so excited when he came home and told us, he watched the beautiful little baby girl moving around in her mother’s belly. He said he held Angela’s hand and told her he would always be there for her and the baby. She didn’t realized he meant he wanted to be there forever. Maybe one day they can be together, but Faith hoped he doesn’t push her into anything.

Angela and Cody have had so much fun picking out baby furniture and buying more clothes than one baby would ever wear. He told us they shop until they both are exhausted. Then they took a picnic lunch down to the lake and watched the ducks until dark. The closest thing to a date they’ve had is when she called and asked him to go to a movie she wanted to see. Of course, he jumped at the chance to go anywhere with Angela. Because he thought she’s the most beautiful pregnant woman he had ever laid his eyes upon.

Faith guessed that’s why this operation really bothers Cody, he realized she and Trey were two special people in his life and he didn’t want anything to mess up tonight. He would kill Mr. Moore himself if he could get away with it. She knew they had to cross every T and dot every I to make everything they could stick with him when they go to court.

Cody thought he couldn’t lose us like he did Shane. Faith got that old sick feeling in the pit of her stomach. She thought his mother couldn’t lose any of her children like they lost Shane. She took Shane’s death so hard because he was always at their house. The boys grew up climbing trees, getting broke arms and legs together. They fought like brothers, but they always had each other’s back. Until he went to the Army and Cody became a police officer.

Then Cody felt like he let Shane down by not being there to cover his back when the enemy killed him. Shane was gone now and Cody loved his wife. He didn’t feel guilty about loving her; he felt guilty about not being there for Shane. However, he’s here for them now and he wouldn’t let them down.

It’s time to stop and get this operation rolling. Cody told the girls he loved them and that he had their back. He opened the back door of the car and they got out. He hugged Faith and Eve, whispering, “Keep your eyes open. If you need me say the word and I’ll be in there in a flash.”

Faith smiled reassuringly. “I know that’s why I love you too.”

Then he hugged Eve a second time a little too tight. “You’re my sis, so you better stay safe or I’ll kick your ass.”

Eve laughed. “You wish you could kick my ass. Now come on, Faith, let’s go party!”

  CHAPTER ELEVEN

  Faith

  “Please touch me Trey”

Cody let them out in front of the bar. Faith and Eve said hello to a couple who were regulars. They’d seen her and Trey here before, but it’d been months, so she didn’t think they had even recognized her. They gave them a second before they went inside. Faith let Eve walk in first. She wanted to make a grand entrance. She normally loved the spotlight, however, not tonight, but it’s time to perform. Trey knew she could perform under pressure, but tonight, she felt butterflies in her stomach. She hoped everything went as planned and they get this operation over soon. She wanted to get out of Chicago. She wanted to go home.

Faith walked through the bar room door, standing there long enough for all eyes to turn on her. The bar was dimly light, but she checked out the band. She couldn’t believe whom she saw; Roni Moore and Cash O’Connor. She hadn’t seen them in years and she sure didn’t know they had a band together. Nevertheless, she bet Trey knew and this was going to be another surprise for her. Faith stared at Cash as he sang a song she remembered all too well. A song he always sang especially for her.

She felt a piece of her heart coming up into her throat. She had to remind herself to breathe because she knew she’s holding her breath. He always took her breath away every time he walked into a room. Now, after all these years he still astonished her. He’s handsome in a rugged sort of way. Faith realized she must finish what she set out to do tonight. She pushed Cash’s presence in the back of her mind, once again.

Shaking her head as if to clear her mind, Faith knew she’s waited as long as she can. Cue the fake smile. Walking to the bar, she saw eyes were on her. Cash smiled down from the stage at her, but she continued to walk as if she didn’t see him. Trey chose a black leather skirt that fit barely below her hips. Faith chose a pair of bright red heels, and the top she’s wearing as a black wrap around tying it on the side, leaving one shoulder bare. The only color on the top was one red rose with the stem winding around her waist, matching her lipstick perfectly. She chose one of his black and red striped ties for a belt. Tying it like a regular tie, and then turning it slightly to the right side of her waist. That took care of the impression her gun made in her skirt, and if she knew Trey that would give him some ideas they both would love.

From the glances they’re getting they must look good. Eve was already at the bar. Faith walked extra slow, letting her hips sway a little more than normal. Nothing had changed, as she walked up to the bar, she saw the place was crowded. The lightening as dim, but she can pick out Trey easily through the packed bar room. She threw her head back, letting her hair flow over her shoulders.

The bartender said, “What’ll it be pretty, lady?”

In her sexiest voice she replied, “I’ll take a Vodka Collins.”

A few moments later, he set her drink in front of her. She licked her lips, taking the cherry out of her drink. She tilted her head back slowly putting the ripe, juicy cherry into her mouth, she handed the bartender the stem. Faith tilted her head back and drank over half of her Vodka Collins. Turning to the bartender she said, “I’ll have another, and please give my friend here one too.”

Eve said, “Hey, Faith, please don’t drink so fast.”

“Why we’re here to party. So drink up, Eve.”

Faith finished the first drink and took the second in her hand. She gazed around then turning to Eve, “Eve, Trey’s over there, let’s go say hello.”

Eve nodded and they walk over to where he’s sitting. Faith acted as if she’s checking the hem of her skirt letting it rise up a little. She only wanted Trey to see the red lace garter she had around her thigh.

Eve said, “Hi, Trey. I see Kellie Jackson sitting in the corner; I’m going over to talk to her. You remember Kellie don’t you Trey? She is one of the realtors in my firm. See you guys later.”

We knew she was going to talk to Kellie, but from the corner, she could see the whole room. That was thinking on her feet. Trey was still sitting in his chair. Faith gazed down into his eyes and whispered, “Make room for me, baby,” as she kissed his neck. She walked around and raised her leg up, putting it across him, sitting on his lap. That raised her skirt higher, showing almost all of her thigh. She stares him straight in the eyes smiling. “Trey, sweetie, how would you like a lap dance?”

“What did you say? Pull that skirt down!” he whisper-yelled at her.

He looked around knowing the bar is wall-to-wall people tonight. They’re in the corner booth by the band. It’s dark and the space was so tight no one would notice what they were doing not even the band. Faith watched the sweat breaking out on Trey’s forehead. He slid out his chair a little more to fit them both. She moved slowly onto his lap deeper. She made it a point to drink half of her drink straight down, tilting her head back smiling at him. He picked up the black and red striped tie that she had on for a belt.

“What do you have here, Miss Faith? I don’t recall that tie being with your outfit. However, I vaguely noticed a tie like the one you’re wearing in my closet a couple of weeks ago. I know the red garter and heels weren’t in the box I sent you.” He said as his other hand slid down to touch her long slender leg and he groaned. He traced the red garter slowly around her thigh.

She whispered in his ear, “No, Trey sweetie, however the tie covers my gun imprint. The color completes my outfit and sets the mood for the evening.”

“Faith, you look so sexy. I’d prefer to pick you up and take you to my bed, and make insane love to you. Do you know what
I’d do with that tie?” he whispered.

She smiled. “No, but I know what I’d do with that tie darling. I’d tie your muscular arms over your head, connecting them to the bedpost with the matching tie I found in your closet. Whenever a doubt arises in regards to my honor, Trey. Choose the naughty side always.”

He reached up, touching her face softly, and trailed his fingers down her slender neck. Then he slid his hand down back down, tracing the curve of her thighs. Faith couldn’t imagine the heat Trey’s hand brings to her body.

She moaned. “Please touch me, Trey. Please.”

“Oh, baby, I’m going to ignite a fire inside you that only I’ll be able to extinguish. However, I am sorry, darling, not here. We have work to do and you wouldn’t have it any other way. Now talk to me, Faith. Tell me where Eve is now.”

Faith knew he’s teasing her, however, she played along. “Still sitting with Kellie in the corner singing to the song the band is playing. I guess you could say she’s doing her job.” She couldn’t stand the pleasure that came from being so close to him. He playfully touched the inside of her thigh.

Faith whimpered. “You have to stop, Trey, it feels so amazing. You’re torturing and teasing me at the same time.”

They gazed into each other’s eyes and Trey softly said, “I love you Faith.”

As she glanced to the stage Cash finished his set, laying his guitar down, walking off the stage. She quickly realized he’s coming over to her table. The sweat ran down her back as Trey helped her off his lap. Her legs wobbled like rubber. She felt as if she might fall, but Trey held her close and lightly kissed her on the lips.
